Same issues with severed wiring

I would not recommend. I have had this fridge for a few years and have the same problem with the wires severing at the base of the freezer door which caused many functions to stop working especially the ice maker. I went to buy the replacement wiring harness, and it has been discontinued. I agree with others this is definitely a design flaw.

Initially, I was satisfied with this refrigerator. Then the ice maker broke. Then I read the reviews. What do you know?!? Cut wires!!! Who could design something so poorly? The way this breaks virtually guarantees it will break outside of warranty. Don’t be fooled by comments from whirlpool that seem to offer help to others. I called the number they provided on another reviewers comment and they were completely useless. This was such a terrible design it baffles me this was never recalled. It’s a shame I outfitted my whole kitchen with whirlpool appliances.

Our ice maker quit working shortly after the two year mark of owing this fridge. We found severed wires at the base of the freezer door so we called Whirlpool. They sent out a service tech who let us know this was caused by poor design and although he could fix it for us for around $300, we would face the problem again due to the design of the fridge. I am disappointed that a company as large as Whirlpool cannot take a look at their poor design and make this right for their customers! I am fridge shopping again now and not only will my new fridge not be a Whirlpool, non of my appliances moving forward will be.
