Whirlpool losing a 30+ year devotee

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm on my third pair of Duet washer/dryers. As a kid growing up, my folks swore by Maytag, but their reputation started to slip years ago, so the cost difference for an allegedly superior product could no longer be justified, so I tried Whirlpool. Bought my first pair 30+ years ago. Got about 14 years out of the first pair, 13 or so out of the second. Now on my third set and have had nothing but problems. Tub bearings went out under warranty for the washer after about a year (fortunately Costco makes them up their warranty to two years, so I was covered). Now with a 3+ year old top of the line steam dryer (the previous version of this one pictured) I am faced with a $400 parts/labor bill to replace the control board! Called customer service to see if they would offer some kind of customer satisfaction concession and was flatly (but politely) declined, even after escalating to mgmt. Nothing! I asked if they felt it was fair/reasonable to have to spend 50% of the cost of a new dryer to repair after 3+ years and she said no, but the warranty is the warranty. Such a shame that a company i have supported with my dollars through so many years can't provide support for me and my brand loyalty when things go bad. They spend so much in marketing/advertising dollars to get new customers when all they have to do is stand behind their product when it matters most, after a couple of years, instead of just when it is brand new.

Sorry dryer:(

I have owned this dryer for about 2 years and no longer than 2yrs., the clothes are not drying all the way and it started making this loud noise as its drying the clothes. My husband took it apart to find that in the back one of the wheels is floppy and needs to be replaced already, seriously!! :(.

Faulty control panel after 4 years

We owned this dryer for only four years when it stopped working. No way to turn it on. A $200 repair visit diagnosed a faulty control panel, which costs more than $400 plus labor to replace. I've never had a top-end, expensive appliance go so quickly before. And there is a question of whether a newer model would stack on our Whirlpool washer. Poor quality, poor value, would not recommend to anyone.

Purchased 4 years ago. Internal weld on drum broke resulting in clunking and eventually ruining off clothes. Would definitely not recommend.

Broken Weld

A weld in the interior drum broke so that the dryer makes a loud clunking and pinches and tears clothing in the break. The dryer was bought in 2012 and whirlpool said their manufacturer defect warranty was only good for 1 year after purchase. They don’t have much confidence in their workmanship it seems. Poor customer service, poor product.
